at Ardakan

IR-Build is the export arm of Khatam Industrial Group, a ceramic and porcelain tile manufacturer in the industrial zone of Ardakan, Yazd. The kilns have run since 1998. Today the works ships to thirty-five countries and keeps three million square metres in the yard, so an order leaves as a full load rather than a promise.

The company

Ardakan sits on the clay and feldspar belt north of Yazd, which is why the ceramic industry settled here. Khatam Industrial Group built its first press line in 1998 to serve the Iranian domestic market, and added glazing, rectification and a second kiln as the format sizes grew. Export began as an overflow and became the larger part of the business.

The works produces glazed ceramic wall tile and whitebody and porcelain floor tile in 30×60, 60×60, 80×80 and 60×120 centimetre formats, in matt, satin, glossy and structured finishes. Everything is pressed, glazed, fired, sorted and palletised on site. Large formats leave the line rectified.

IR-Build is the name the group trades under abroad. One desk handles specification, samples, pricing and loading, so an importer deals with the factory rather than a chain of agents.

Every tile passes an optical sorter and a manual grade. Dimension, planarity, water absorption and abrasion are tested batch by batch against ISO 13006 and EN ISO 10545, and each pallet is marked with its calibre and shade batch so a site can order a second load that matches the first.
